Class 6 | Chapter 3: How AI Thinks – Pattern Recognition & Decision Making

Chapter 3: Pattern Recognition & Decision Making

Computational Thinking Series for Class 6

🎯 What will we learn today?

  • What are Patterns and why do they matter?
  • How to identify patterns in shapes, numbers, and nature.
  • How to make Decisions based on observations.

1. Understanding Patterns

A pattern is something that repeats in a predictable way. Identifying patterns helps us guess what comes next!

Can you solve this?
🍎 🍌 🍎 🍌 🍎 ... ?
(If you said 🍌, you just used Pattern Recognition!)

2. Observations and Conclusions

To find a pattern, we must first make an Observation (look closely). Once we see a pattern, we can draw a Conclusion (a smart guess).

Daily Life Example:
Observation: Every Monday, your school serves Rajma Chawal.
Pattern: Monday = Rajma Chawal.
Conclusion: Next Monday, I should bring a spoon because it will be Rajma Chawal again!

3. Decision Making

Decision making is choosing between two or more options based on the data and patterns we have.

Example: If the pattern shows it rains every evening, your Decision would be to carry an umbrella when you go out at 5 PM.

🚀 Live Activity: Train the Computer

AI uses patterns to recognize your drawings! Try this Google game to see how AI recognizes patterns in real-time.

Play Quick, Draw! 🎨

Task: Draw the objects and see how the AI "recognizes the pattern" of your doodles.

📝 Mini Quiz

Q: If a sequence is 2, 4, 6, 8... what is the pattern?

Answer: Adding 2 to the previous number. (The next number will be 10!)

Class 6 AI | Chapter 1: What is Artificial Intelligence? 🤖

What is Intelligence? 🧠

Before we learn about Artificial Intelligence, let's understand how we, as humans, are smart. Human intelligence is our mental ability to:

  • Think: Processing information around us.
  • Learn: Getting better at things by practicing.
  • Solve Problems: Finding answers when things get tricky.

Real-life Example: When you learn to ride a cycle or solve a math puzzle, you are using your natural intelligence!

What is Artificial Intelligence (AI)? 🤖

Similarly, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a machine's ability to take decisions, solve problems, and learn—just like a human being!

AI takes in a lot of information (data) and uses it to do something useful, like predicting the weather or playing a game of chess.

AI vs. Automation: Which is which?

Many people think every machine is AI, but there is a big difference:

Automation Artificial Intelligence
Makes physical work easy. Makes mental work easy.
Works on pre-programmed rules. Learns and adapts from data.
Example: Washing Machine. Example: Face Unlock, Alexa.

AI in Everyday Life 🌍

We use AI tools every day to make our lives easier:

  • Google Maps: Uses AI to find the shortest path and check traffic.
  • YouTube: AI keeps track of what you watch to suggest videos you might like.
  • Digital Assistants: Alexa and Siri use AI to understand human language and answer your questions.
  • 🌟 Try it Yourself!

Open Google AutoDraw. Start drawing a messy shape. Can the AI guess what you are drawing? It uses Computer Vision to recognize your patterns!
